Oops I did it again...

...and by that I mean I turned down a job because of a contract. It was for a well known children's activity magazine. The AD was very upfront about the fact it would be a "work-for-hire" contract. They refused to change saying they're too small and low budgeted to have a department that manages various rights agreements for the hundreds of individual artists. I explained that my policy is never to give up ownership or copyright to my work, that licensing is a huge part of my business. But I am willing to discuss an exclusive usage with a limited time period but even that I would require a larger fee. So it didn't work out. And yet I felt guilty about letting a job, any job go in this economic climate.
So fellow illustrators I ask you, have you been given unacceptable contracts? Have you rejected them? I think it's important that we stick together and support each other on these issues. Yes?

I am on Amazon

One of my dreams in life has always been to have my art and writings published in a book another dream was to have that book on Amazon.com today I accomplished both of those dreams. The Chimpanzee Manifesto is a collection of my drawings, limited to an edition of 500 worldwide, each book is signed and numbered and include two essays on how and why I created these images. I am honored to share this with you all.
